Welcome to St. John

St. John was founded in 1909 by German refugees escaping persecution in Russia. Since then there have been many changes. Instead of being on the very edge of the city, we are now in the core. The ethnic diversity in the community has changed several times and continues to do so. Some things have not changed, we still have refugees living among us and there is still a need to emphasize family, forgiveness and caring for others.

St. John Lutheran Church is centrally located in the community of Bridgeland in NE Calgary, at 204 6A St. You can get there quickly from Memorial Drive and Edmonton Trail. It is opposite a school parking lot and is a large and beautiful church with a warm and friendly congregation dedicated to serving our Lord and Saviour. For driving instructions and maps, try this terrific Map; but if you need a ride, call us and we will arrange to bring you to church and take you home again.

Special Reminder! --- Sunday School Starts September 17th!

Lutheran Congregations

Lutheran congregations are singing congregations, so help us fill our sanctuary every Sunday with strong voices in praise of God.

Our gifts include:
- a caring and devoted minister, Pastor Arnold Alksne.
- a fine organist,
- a dynamic youth coordinator,
- a dedicated Sunday School staff,
- a devoted group of Evangelical Lutheran Women'
- faithful council and boards.

There is something for the entire family at St. John. Whether you are passing through or live here, you are welcome to join us in celebration of life and salvation provided for us by our heavenly father! Come visit us and enjoy the welcoming spirit of our church.

St. John is a member congregation of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, Synod of  Alberta and the Territories and a member congregation of the Southwest Alberta Lutheran    Church conference. In a broader context, the ELCIC is a member church of the world-wide Lutheran World Federation.
